People are…a…trippppp right?!? From people who are indeed “haters”, throwing glances and shade from afar when you come in to the room to actual individuals that will block you from succeeding…. trust, you are not alone in the feeling of discuss and even finding joy in knowing that you must be special to draw such attention… In fact… you are not even the first, just look at Matthew 27
Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied. When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?” But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
So… have you ever had people or even a person ridicule you and you just stand there and take it? Falsely accuse you, start a rumor about you in your circle of friends, or blame you for something at work. Instead of easily refuting and debunking it all, you sit in silence…? I imagine the word “no” or worse has flashed in your head several times. 😊
I can’t lie, the #struggle is still very real… BUT one situation I went through showed me the mind Jesus must have been in at that moment.
I was job hunting early on in my radio career, just after my departure from G105 and before Curtis media. I actually interviewed with a person that still had a 3/5ths mentality. The initial reaction was priceless and you could see the wheels spinning as he could not understand how my name, my phone voice, resume, and my air-check defied everything his left brain knew about my culture. That didn’t stop him from making some off the cuff remarks that were obviously meant to try and pin at least one black stereotype on me. I’m not one to pull punches, God knew this and I truly believe HE started erasing my negative thoughts in real time to the point I was speechless. Needless to say, I did not get that job. HE sent me to Curtis Media and then to CSS 102.3 as a Program Director. The kicker…that same person needed a job, heard about the station, came by, and asked me who the PD was. Oh he remembered my face and seeing how there was just me and the office manager, who made clear she was the office manager, I knew that was a shot across a bow. It was then I “saw the bigger picture”… regardless of what he might’ve thought, we honestly didn’t have any open positions and I was actually open to taking his resume to be considered in the future. God had put me in a position for a win-win. Even if I extended the offer to hire, I seriously doubt he would even take it… I even expressed to him that there were no hard feelings because it was just not a part of Gods plan.
Jesus was the same… The plan was to forgive us of our sins even in the moment when humanity turned against HIM. Stuck to his Father’s plan. Sure we don’t go through life and death situations like that, but in your daily life in the situations you do face… only knowing the outcome is for the greater, can you stick to your Father‘s plan?
