1. Size matters.
Packing smaller, less obvious sex toys is your safest bet for not attracting unwanted attention at the airport security check. “TSA requires that toys be seven inches or smaller, so make it easier on everyone and don’t pack your 10-inch dildo,” says Antonia Hall, MA., a psychologist, relationship expert, and author of The Ultimate Guide to a Multi-Orgasmic Life.
2. Turn them off (before they turn you on).
Make certain to take out batteries and flip the lock switch if your toy has one. Place any toys and accessories in a bag and pack them between clothes, so if your bag does get searched you’ll have a little time to alert security and move to a private area for the remainder of the search.
3. Honesty is your best policy.
Breathe, smile, and be straight up with them that it’s just your toy. “Security sees it all and vibrators are commonplace, so if you’re comfortable and secure, they’re more likely to be as well,” says Hall.
4. When you can, check.
A lot of us avoid checking our bags at the airport because of increased baggage fees as well as having to wait for said baggage when we land. However, if you don’t want to go through screening with that vibrator, packing it is your best option. “Whenever possible, check your sex toy so you avoid having an awkward conversation with airport security. If you can’t do that, pack the smallest and most discreet toy and put it in a plastic bag so they can easily see that you’re not trying to hide anything,” says Andrea Syrtash, relationship expert and author of He’s Just Not Your Type (And That’s a Good Thing). “If airport security asks you, be honest and unapologetic. There’s nothing wrong with having or using toys!”
